Weather: Rainy
Lunch: Castle Cafe
Dinner: Advocate (pub in Royal Mile)
Stayed at Ard-Na-Said B&B, Edinburgh, Scotland

It was a very rainy day, but we spent most of our time at Edinburgh castle. Stories of Mary Stewart, Henry VII, VIII, and Cromwell are everywhere, and it was very difficult to put the historical events and people’s name cohesively in my mind, no matter how many times they appeared in the signs. Having been educated in Japan, I had memorized all these names and events, and they all sounded familiar, but I could not relate them. Was it Henry VIII or Richard III that I had read in a senior seminar at a Japanese university? It is frustrating that I cannot recall these facts. I swore secretly that I would relearn English history and reread those Shakespeare plays.

We had lunch in a cafe inside the castle. The food was pretty good and the facilities were very clean.

We took our son to Waverly train station after that, and saw him off back to St. Andrews. It is always a little sad to part with your children.
