Stayed at Annandale B&B, St Andrews, Scotland

Mark and I left for Scotland at about 7:30PM on 2/21 and arrived at Heathrow in the morning. We made a connecting flight to Edinburgh, and then took a two hour bus ride to St. Andrews where my son is studying this year.

Probably because I stayed up quite late on 2/20 to cook a few dishes for my oldest son who stayed behind, I was having very bad back pain, before, during, and after the flight. At Logan as well as at Heathrow, going through the security line and walking miles between the concourse were very tough, and felt that I had made a mistake to take on a trip this early in my recovery process.

Further more, we were dropped in the middle of nowhere in St. Andrews by the bus in the chilly rain; the bus terminal was being renovated. Also, we did not have the address of the B&B; the town being so small, the website did not bother to list it. I almost cried, walking on the cobble stone street while pulling a huge suitcase.

While I was taking a shelter from the rain in a University-book-store-like shop, Mark found that the B&B was only three blocks beyond. The town was that small! After settling in at the B&B, we called our son, and met him for lunch.

He appeared in a tweed jacket over a wool sweater (the ones he bought at a second hand clothing store.) This must be his way of assimilating to a different culture.

In spite of my back and stomach pain, we walked around the town in the rain and went to see the old castle ruins and university buildings.
