Yesterday (October 4), her surgeon told Mayumi that she will probably be discharged from the hospital on Friday (October 6). The medical staff spent the morning monitoring her as she was given small amounts of grape juice and other liquids to drink, and she had no difficulty swallowing any of them.

Her only problem is pain management, ever since her epidural was removed. I believe they are giving her OxyContin through her J-tube, and determining the proper dosage has been a matter of trial and error: too little, and the pain quickly returns; too much, and she feels like she is hallucinating.
